Online Chess Club Lesson Description (First half of the class):
Students will meet on Zoom while I screen share my virtual chess board. I will be examining world champion openings, ideas in the middle game, end game patterns, tactical motifs and elements. Students can use their own boards to recreate the lesson in 3D, record notes, and/or simply follow along on the board I will be sharing to their devices.
Online Chess Club Description (Second half of the class):
The tournament is an arena format which allows students to play as many games as possible before the hour is up. In real life tournaments, children must wait until everyone has finished their games and are only given a set number of games to play. This opportunity provides students with an opportunity to play as soon as a new match is made available. Less waiting and more playing! Additionally, games will be recorded by the computer allowing students to review them afterwards.
Awards:
Students will be able to earn key chains (in addition to the school clubs) that will be exchanged for trophies. 8 keychains (bigger pieces/bigger trophy) earn trophy; 10 keychains (regardless of piece type) earn a medium-sized trophy; 15 keychains (regardless of piece type) earn the largest trophy.
When/Where:
Students will meet on Zoom while participating in our online club tournament.
Meet on Zoom and Lichess.org by 6:45 PM. Lessons and tournament directions from 6:45-7:05, and then begin games at 7:10 PM. Access directions to our team room will be sent out the Friday before the first class of each session.
